چکیده

In order to study the potential pathogenic mechanisms, live cultures, culture-f ilterates and Polymyxin B released extracts from original and animal-passed strains of C jejunh/coli were compared by a neonatal mouse infection and in-vitro Vero-Cell cytotoxicity. The cell fractions from mouse-passed strains elaborated strong cytotonic and cytotoxic activity causing elongation, granular appearance and lysis of Vero-Cells. Only weak enterotoxic activity Was associated with the original strains. Partial neutralization of the cytotonic activity by mono-clonal anticholera toxin (CT) suggested immunological relationship between the toxins which was also demonstrated by Ouchterlony immunodiffusion using polyclonal anti-CT serum. The in-vivo significance of CT like and other toxic materials produced by Campy/obacter strains during animal-passage remains to be assessed (JPMA 37 : 97, 1987).

A Molecular Survey of Campylobacter jejuni and Campylobacter Coli Virulence and Diversity

Background: The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of virulence-associated genes and enterobacterial repetitive intergenic consensus PCR (ERIC-PCR) analysis of Campylobacter spp. isolated from children with diarrhea in Iran. Methods: A total of 200 stool specimens were obtained from children under 5 years during July 2012 to July 2013. Detection of C. jejuni and C. coli was perfo...

Virulence characteristics of hcp+Campylobacter jejuni and Campylobacter coli isolates from retail chicken

BACKGROUND Recently the Type VI secretion system (T6SS), which can play a significant role in bacterial survival and pathogenesis, was reported in Campylobacter spp., having the hcp gene as a key component. METHODS Campylobacteriosis is associated with the consumption of infected chicken meat. Our study aimed to explore the presence of T6SS in C. jejuni (n = 59) and C. coli (n = 57) isolates,...

Investigation of Virulence-Associated genes and Cytolethal Distending Toxin Production in Campylobacter spp. isolated from broilers

The aim of this study was to investigate the prevalence of virulence and Cytolethal Distending Toxin (CDT) genes in the Campylobacter isolates from intestinal contents and gall bladders of broilers and, to evalute their cytotoxic effects on HeLa cell cultures. These genes play important roles in bacterial adherence to intestinal mucosa, flagella-mediated motility, invasive capability and the ab...
